In the ninth issue of the Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, volume 172, the article "Effects of short-term inhalations of Xe and O2 gas mixture in the rehabilitation of post-COVID ventilation failure" was published.

The article presents a theoretical rationale and a clinical case of relief of post-COVID ventilation failure with inhalation of Xe and O₂ gas mixture. Pneumonitis of coronavirus etiology transforms saturated phospholipids of a surfactant into a solid-ordered phase disrupting surface tension, alveolar pneumatization and alveolar-capillary gas exchange. The molecular modeling (B3LYP/lanl2dz; GAUSSIAN09) demonstrated that due to the van der Waals dispersion interaction the Xe atom increases the distance between the acyl chains of phospholipids providing a phase transition from the solid-ordered phase to the liquid phase with the reduction of a monolayer of a surfactant surface-active film. The clinical case confirmed short-term inhalations of the Xe and O₂ gas mixture relieve manifestations of ventilation insufficiency, increase SpO₂ and pneumatization of the terminal parts of the lungs.

SAKI modification apparatus is designed for using under the conditions of a hospital, outpatients’ department, sanatorium, and centers of rendering palliative aid. STAKI modification apparatus is designed for using in the stomatology consulting room and outpatients’ department. PAKI modification apparatus is a portable variant and can be used in any medical-prophylaxis establishment as well as in emergency ambulances and in rendering aid outside medical institutions. For the production of the enterprise Certificate No 1044 was issued announcing that “STAKI” modification apparatus for Xenon inhalation was conferred the sign “Approved by StAR” of the Stomatology Association of Russia.
